Mountain ballads and other poems, 1859.

The collection consists of a bound volume of hand-lettered poems by Mary Stetson Bartlett, with illustrations of nature in a gentle ink wash by her husband, Josiah Moody Bartlett. The poems praise nature, and often show a spiritual side. Ashland 1859, is written on the title page, and the titles of the illustrations suggest that the poems were inspired by the Ashland area in eastern Pennsylvania. Contains many decorated initials, including the author's monogram, MSB. While the contents pages indicate "The Old Pine Tree" on page 71 is the last poem, four additional illustrated poems on pages 73 through [74-78] are bound in. Also included are 18 pages of draft or rough copies of several of the poems on loose pages.
